Your Wallet under Attack
Adverts（广告）are like air---they are everywhere. When you watch TV, take the school bus, or surf the Internet, they are there.
Is everybody happy about them?
Adverts give us information about new things we might kike to buy. They are part of modern life. But, are adverts always true?
Scientists say adverts could be making kids fat.
In Britain, scientists found that at the time many young people watch TV—between 6pm and 9pm---there are lots of fast food adverts. They tell kids that these foods are very nice. But they don’t say the foods have a lot of sugar and fat in them. Kids watch the adverts and go to buy the food. This can make them fat.
Scientists also think that adverts make kids waste money. For example,some adverts say that you’re not cool if you don’t buy something---“Everybody in town has this bag, why not you?”
To try to be cool, kids then spend lots of money on things they don’t really need. But do they really make you cool when you have no money left?
Adverts say their product the best—better than other companies? You may see the same advert many times. But this doesn’t mean the product is better than any other. You can test which one is the best yourself.
Think twice
Adverts sometimes look so nice. How can I think differently? Here are some tips（建议）and facts:
1. Star power—you favorite sports star is telling you that their product is the best. But he gets money to say so.
2. Size—sometimes, the product doesn’t really look as good as it is in the Advert. It could be smaller or not look so good in real life.
3. Not the only one—“Feel thirsty? Drink me!” some drinks adverts say. But water does the same thing!
4. Wait—“I want the thing in the advert. I’ll go to get it at once!” Think before you act. If you still remember it in two weeks and still want it, go to get it. If not, forget about it.
