一.Contents
Today I’m going to talk about Book 8 Module8 Unit1 “New York is in the east.” The aim of this book is to cultivate pupils’ basic abilities of their listening and speaking and their good sense of the English language.
This Lesson is to talk about the position, Though Daming talks about his cousin who lives in America, It can make Ss to practice the sentences by using “in the east of or in the west of”.
二. Teaching aims
1. Aims on the knowledge
1)Ss are able to listen, speak, read and write these words: east west country America cousin
2)Ss are able to listen, speak, read and write these sentences: He lives in the east of America. Los Angeles is in the west of America.
2. Aims on the abilities
1)Ss are able to understand the whole dialog and read it correctly.
2)Ss are able to use the sentences to talk about the position.
3. Aims on the emotion
1)Make sure Ss are interested in foreign countries.
2)Encourage the Ss to introduce the position of some places.
4.Key-points and difficult points of this lesson
Ss are able to read and write the words: east west country America cousin Ss are able to read and write the sentences: He lives in the east of America. Los Angeles is in the west of America.
The difficult point is how to use these sentences to describe the position.
三. Teaching methods
In this lesson I’ll mainly use “Task-based” teaching method. That is to say, I will let the Ss learn in real situations, finish tasks by answering questions to get a better understanding of the key structure of the dialogue. I will also use the group learning method, which will enable the Ss to study in groups and develop the abilities of cooperation and communication.
And in this lesson CD-ROM, books, PPT and a printed form will be needed.
四. Teaching procedures and purposes of my designing.
Step 1. Warm-up
1.Sing a song about Module 8 unit 1
Purpose: Singing is a very important way to form a better English learning surrounding. It can lead some new words such as:“north south east west” and then stick it on the blackboard.
2. Taking out a globe to give Ss the impression about some countries. And show a video of America.
Purpose: This part is leading the word “country” “America” and the passage. It provides some cities of America from video. Let Ss know the position in America.
Step 2. Presentation
1.Listen to the text the first time and try to answer
Q: who is Simon?
Q: Where does Simon live?
2. Show a picture of America, ask Ss some questions
Q:Does he live in Los Angeles? Does he live in New York?
3. Introduce “Los Angeles” and “New York” though video, Let Ss come to the front to stick these cities on the blackboard and then talk about the position.
Purpose: Ss can have a sense of foreign cities.
4. Listen and repeat
5. Read it together
Purpose: Ss can learn the text and understand the key structure step by step by answering the questions from teacher.
Step 4. Practice
1.Do the Activity Book Exercise 1
2.Show a picture of our school which we know, Ss try to say the position around our school.
Purpose: The aim of these parts is to check if the Ss know the meaning of the text and help them to practice the key sentences.
Step 5. Extension
1.Show a picture of “China”.Ask the students talk about the position of some places from China.
2.Play a game: play hide and seek
3.Try to write some new words in papers.
Purpose: It is necessary for the Ss to do some extensive exercises after class to consolidate the knowledge they learned. So I make real situations and some games which Ss liked to practise more and more from saying to writing.
Step 6. Summary and Homework
1.Do a summary together and homework of this lesson:
1) Listen to the text and read it.
2)Talk about the position with your parents.
